How I Learned to Love the Mask
Organic Kids’ Face Masks
Face masks are now a standard accessory for most of us, and will be part of our lives for some time. We are fully embracing them!
Some areas—like LA and NY, where our Tucan team lives—have made non-medical-grade face coverings mandatory outside of the house, and a majority of states in the US now require them in public places. No one wants to wear one, but it’s the responsible thing to do, and the safest. Face masks help reduce the chance of transmission of the novel coronavirus, to us or from us to someone else. So for us and our kids (over the age of 2), face masks are the new item we’ll always have stowed in our bag.
Our own feelings about face masks also set the tone for our kids. If we approach getting a face mask as a cool, new accessory, they may be curious and interested. If we let them pick out their mask from a few options, they might even get excited.
We can help in the selection department. We searched for the best versions that meet Tucan requirements: Natural, nontoxic materials. GOTS organic cotton. Preferably cute. See the above slideshow. They all come in matching adult versions, too!
Please note per the CDC:
“Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
The cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators. Those are critical supplies that must continue to be reserved for healthcare workers and other medical first responders, as recommended by current CDC guidance.”
